An announcement is expected Thursday morning on a lawsuit filed against the State of California and Gov. Gavin Newsom regarding youth sports, says an organization that advocates for the reopening of sports for children.
A settlement has been reached by two San Diego athletes in the lawsuit that allegedly will make a widespread impact on youth sports, according to Let Them Play CA. The plantiffs in the complaint include a Scripps Ranch High School senior, its head football coach, Torrey Pines High School’s head coach and the co-founder of Let Them Play CA.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, full-contact youth sports were ordered to cease last year. Since then, several parents and children have championed for its return, saying it is unfair that professional athletes are able to continue on with their own sports while children are not.
Let Them Play CA is expected to make its announcement at 10 a.m. Thursday.
